Hole 7 | Par 5 Blue: 611 | White: 561 | Red: 515 Hole Description. From the very difficult 6th hole, to the massive 7th hole. The view from the tee adds fear to even the most accomplished golfer. Between the teeing area and the fairway lies a lake that stretches the drive carry to 200 yards! Trees and thick rough act as additional obstructions over this difficult tee shot. Once successfully over the water, players must negotiate the fairway bunkers both left and right. A well positioned second shot is vital if the hole is to be well played. The second shot requires a shot to be hit high over the trees which progressively creep into the narrowing fairway. 190 yards from the green, the width of the fairway narrows to 15 yards. At either side of the bottle neck there is danger in the of a fairway bunker to the right, and dense trees to the left. This forces the player to attempt to clear this troubled area. The fairway landing zone past the bottle neck opens up, and leaves an area of 80 yards before a large cross bunker comes into play 110 yards short of the green. The green is long, contoured and narrow with deep bunkers waiting both left and right. The putting surface will again punished a poorly judged putt as the slick surface is accompanied by large and subtle contours. This hole is safely guarded by it’s sheer length and various obstructions. The Pro’s Way:- The tee shot must be fired down the right side of the fairway to avoid being blocked out by the bottle neck in the fairway. A ball hit down the left will have no option other than to hit a mid iron over the tree line and short of the cross bunker. A perfect tee shot will give you a clear path to hit a fairway wood over the cross bunker into the fairway short of the green. The distance to clear this troublesome bunker in two shots is some 530 yards, so it will need two of your very best. If you decide to lay up short of the bunker, the safe distance from the tee to the start of the bunker is 500 yards. This will leave a wedge shot of 110 yards to the green’s center. Chipping to the green from the left or right side is difficult as the green is slightly elevated. Even for the longest hitters a par 5 here is a very good score. The Amateurs Way:- Prepare yourself for a long journey up this very difficult par 5. Aim your tee shot up the left side of the fairway with at least 200 yards worth of power behind it. This will find the dry fairway and leave you in position to tackle the next shot. You will be faced with a tough shot that will require the ball to fly high enough over the trees at the bottle neck. Try not to get too greedy with length and play to find the fairway as it opens up after the bottle neck. The shot into the narrow green from the wide fairway area, can play anything between 185 yards and 100 yards so the test for the approach is tough. It is fair to say that this is one of the most difficult golf holes you will play in the whole of Asia. |
