Hole 5 | Par 4 Blue: 358 | White: 330 | Red: 297 Hole Description.
Another medium length par 4 yet again demands a well positioned tee shot. Trees, OB and a fairway bunker to the right, thick rough and trees to the left, leaves only one option:- Hit the fairway! From the fairway the approach shot to the elevated green requires a well struck shot with a mid to short iron. The target area is quite large so try to select the correct club for the best chance of leaving a reasonable length putt. 3 bunkers guard this green, one to the right, and two deep bunkers to the left need avoiding at all costs. The putting surface is quite kind but as always be aware of the pace of the green. The Pro’s Way:- A long iron or fairway wood down the middle of the fairway is the play here. A ball hit too long will find the hidden fairway bunker 300 yards out making the approach very difficult. Plan to hit the tee shot between 220 yards and 250 yards to give a safe approach of 130/140 yards to the green’s center. Cub selection is important to land the ball in the right area of the large green. The Amateurs Way:- It would be wise to leave the driver in the bag again on this hole as accuracy is more important than length here. The train track to the right of the hole acts as OB and thick trees down the left leaves the only option of a side ways chip out. A straight shot of 220 yards will leave an approach of 160 yards to the front of the green. Take an extra moment on the club selection for you approach as anything short will find sand or rough, so take enough club to fly the trouble. |
